Bath & Bodyworks

Here’s my submission for Lesson 1 of Brooke Snow’s Lifestyle Photography class.  I am not very comfortable taking pictures in public places so I forced myself to step outside my comfort zone for this assignment.  I noticed that because I felt self-conscious, I rushed through and did not pay as much attention as I should have to my settings and backgrounds.  There are things I would go back and do differently such as stopping down my aperture in order to get more depth of field in the signage shots.  Overall, I like the story and love that I was able to capture a real experience with my daughter in an uncontrolled setting.  Thank you Brooke for this assignment. The idea of conflict was new to me and I can already see the value it lends to the emotional impact of the image.

Elise - I love these pictures. I am the same way about taking pictures in a public place and rush through as well. Good for you for stepping outside your comfort zone. I need to do that as well!

Jen - These certainly don’t look rushed to me! What a wonderful idea! I hope you won’t mind if I try it sometime. (However, my boys will have to go to the hardware store instead :)! ) I also like the way that you displayed them in a collage/storyboard.
