52 Fridays – Week 13 {Create the Album Cover to your Life}

Kelly Rae Roberts is an artist whose work I adore and whose book has had a profound impact on my life.  I picked up “Taking Flight – Inspiration and Techniques to give your creative spirit wings” a few years ago and never expected it to be the push I needed to move forward in both my art and my life. I picked it up primarily because I have always enjoyed painting and thought it would be something fun for me and my daughter to explore together.  After reading Chapter Two – Facing your Fears, I sat down and evaluated where I was in my life and what was holding me back.  One of the primary issues that cropped up was perfectionism – which is really fear.  This started a journey where I discovered how big of an impact fear (disguised in the form of perfectionism) was preventing me from growing and moving forward.  Kelly’s blog also introduced me to the work of Brene Brown whose books “I Thought it was Just Me” and “The Gifts of Imperfection” have also really influenced me these past few years.  I am in the process of working to put perfectionism aside, discovering who I want to be as an artist and finding the confidence to move forward while not worrying about what others think of me or my art.  As I approached 2012 I chose to participate in the One Word Project and the album cover to my life represents my word for 2012.

Next up on the circle is Kate Williams | Southwest Wyoming Lifestyle Portrait & Wedding Photographer. You can check out her interpretation of this week’s theme here.
