52 Fridays – Week 24 {Oldness}

As I thought about this week’s theme I realized that oldness for me is a relative term.  My initial reaction was somewhat negative as it focused on aging and getting older from a physical standpoint and all the hardships that come with it, especially for women in our culture.  But as I thought about it more, I realized it’s really about your perspective.  In growing older, there is beauty in creating lives, building character in children, developing relationships and growing old together.  There is beauty in the old, not because it is flawless but because it has withstood the test of time.  For better or worse. This week my mother and father in-law are celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary.  As I look at their life together I realize, maybe for the first time, oldness is a privilege.  Every day is a gift.

Next up on the circle is Holly Bullock. You can check out her interpretation of this week’s theme here.
